What does a legal nurse consultant do?
A legal nurse consultant is a registered nurse who applies clinical education and healthcare experience to matters involving illness, injury, treatment, or standards of care. The role is to help attorneys understand what the medical record shows, what may be missing, and which clinical questions require closer examination. It is a clinical consulting role and does not include legal advice.
How do you work with attorneys?
Every engagement begins with a brief, non-confidential consultation about the matter, your goals, deadlines, and the work product you need. A conflict check is completed before any case information is received. Scope, deliverables, timing, and fees are then documented in a written agreement, and secure record-transfer instructions follow.
Do you work with plaintiff or defense teams?
Both. The analysis is objective either way: findings are supported by the record and separated clearly from observations and open questions. Conflict review at the outset ensures there is no conflicting involvement in a matter.
Which states do you serve?
Attorneys throughout Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina, with select engagements available in additional markets. Record review, chronology, merit screening, and standards-of-care work are prepared remotely, so location within those states does not limit availability. On-site support, including defense medical examination observation, is arranged by request.
How long does a review take?
Most reviews are delivered within 24 to 72 hours of receiving a complete record set and an agreed scope. Larger or multi-provider record sets may require additional time, which is confirmed in writing before work begins rather than discovered later.
How are fees structured?
Fees depend on the scope of the questions presented, record volume, and the deliverable requested. Every engagement is quoted and documented in writing before work begins, so costs are known in advance. A professional fee schedule is available on request.
Are you an expert witness?
Not in every engagement. As a consulting legal nurse consultant, Bianca supports the legal team's understanding and analysis of the medical record; in that role she is not the testifying expert. She also accepts expert witness engagements within her nursing specialty when appropriately retained. Expert witness work is a separate engagement, with the role and scope defined by the needs of the case.
How do I send medical records securely?
Do not send medical records through this website or by unsecured email. After conflict review and a signed agreement, approved secure transfer instructions are provided for your matter.
Is case information kept confidential?
Yes. A conflict check is completed before case information is received, confidentiality terms are documented in every engagement agreement, and protected health information is handled under HIPAA-aligned safeguards.
What information do you need to get started?
For a first conversation: the general matter type, jurisdiction, current stage, approximate record volume, any relevant deadlines, and the questions you need answered. Please do not include patient names, dates of birth, or medical records in that first message.
What is a defense medical examination observation?
When a plaintiff is examined by a physician selected by the opposing party, an observing nurse can document the conditions and conduct of that examination and provide an objective written account for the legal team. Observer rights and recording rules vary by jurisdiction and are confirmed with counsel before the examination.
Do you review cases outside your clinical specialty?
Record review, chronology, and merit screening are applied across medical specialties. Where a matter turns on a question outside direct clinical experience, that is identified early and an appropriately matched expert is recommended rather than the question being answered beyond the record.
